NLC announces qualified applicants from second phase Licensed Cannabis Retailer RFP

St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador, July 19th, 2018

Newfoundland Labrador Liquor Corporation (NLC) released the names and locations of qualified applicants from the second phase of the Licensed Cannabis Retailer (LCR) Request for Proposals (RFP) today at www.shopcannabisnl.com.

NLC previously announced 24 qualified applicants from the first phase RFP on May 7th. Several geographic gaps were subsequently identified, and a secondary, region-specific RFP was launched on May 8th with a closing date of June 21st.

According to Sharon Sparkes, President & CEO of NLC, “We are very pleased to have qualified applicants in five new retail locations, thereby ensuring we achieve our mandate of providing safe and secure province-wide access to non-medical cannabis throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.”

Qualified applicants have been contacted by NLC and will be guided through the next phase of the application process to become Licensed Cannabis Retailers.

The evaluation process of the second phase RFP included the review of thirteen proposals. There were multiple proposals submitted in each postal code, and as a result, five qualified applicants have been identified for new retail locations in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Port-aux-Basques, Rocky Harbour, Bonavista, and Marystown.

This second phase of development will position more than 85% of the province’s population within 50 kilometres of a licensed cannabis retail store. When combined with online sales via ShopCannabisNL.com with “direct-to-consumer” delivery, NLC is confident that all Newfoundland and Labrador residents, nineteen years of age and older, will have suitable access to non-medical cannabis.

“We are making great progress in developing the retail network with our qualified applicants and remain focused on offering a safe, responsible and accessible cannabis retail operation for the people of the province,” Ms. Sparkes explained.

A full list of qualified applicants is available online at www.shopcannabisnl.com, as well as latest updates, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), Contacts, Legislation, Responsibility and more.
